Steven Andrew Kolenik III grew up in rural Western Pennsylvania and attended the University of Pennsylvania, and the Yale School of Medicine. He is a Mohs surgeon in Fairfield County Connecticut and a self-taught painter. He is influenced by the mid-century artists Robert Motherwell and Franz Kline and the contemporary artists Gary Komarin, Raouf Rifai, Ronnie Nemorin, Karla Knight, and Sherri Wolfgang. He paints using acrylics, oils, collage, and epoxy on canvas. His work depicts people and creatures real and imagined expressing a range of emotional reactions to the modern world.
