Moving beyond pure representation is what I love about painting; it allows me to do that. Exploring the tensions between the real and the abstract, those of inner worlds, what we feel but cannot see, establishing connections. These figures are a threshold, one foot in reality, then an invitation to open up to a floating, moving universe, between dream and landscape, like a place of passage. Painting then becomes a space of passage too, a place between the viewer and the surface of the painting, an invitation to slow down, to dialogue in silence, an invitation to take the time to observe what inhabits us and connects us to the world beneath the surface of reality, close to the surface.
