RECOGNITION
Sangmin Tang Lee (b. 1993, South Korea) is a queer visual activist based in Seattle, U.S., and Seoul, South Korea. Their work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. Lee received a full scholarship from ILGA Asia in 2025 and was recently featured in Pride in Community on Artsy.
Lee's work is drawn to Asian queer and trans communities. Their creative process is based on queer history and factual research, but it is the lived narratives of individuals that give the work its life. Lee's visual and performative work centers on connection through presence. Their practice holds inward honesty and outward responsibility together: Lee asks what kind of representation might have helped their younger self.
