Ryan Le Garrec

Ryan Le Garrec was expelled from film school and never looked back.
He built his career in Stockholm instead — video installations, scenography, and image work with contemporary dance companies — before meeting Damien Rice in 2003 and spending the next years on world tour with him. Back on land, he co-produced and directed a television portrait series spanning Nobel Prize winners, reggae legends, refugees, and cab drivers.
A chance TV report on bike messengers turned him into one. That detour led to ultra-endurance cycling, racing and filming the sport's most demanding events across Europe and beyond, sometimes as a competitor himself.
He moved to Ericeira, Portugal. Two years ago he got in the ocean on a Sunday and never came back.
Now he films from a bodyboard instead of a bike. His first surf film was selected for the Portuguese Surf Film Festival almost by accident — and won the Audience Award. His photography has been selected for the Ocean Art Festival and recently took first place in the Canon x 58 Surf photography contest.
He is still learning to swim properly.
