Soojin Kim

Nature, always present to us, demonstrates the infinite cycle of birth, growth, and death, its vitality and vitality. Its ever-changing appearance, driven by light, wind, and seasonal changes, serves as a motif and source of inspiration for my paintings.

One day, I encountered several rugged cacti in a botanical garden. Their regular yet irregular forms sparked my curiosity about the fundamental principles (truth and calling) that govern the operation of this world. Their unique forms, filled with a sense of unfamiliarity and excitement, awakened me to a new sense of complexity and beauty.

Perceived as disorder, they grow and sprout daily, each with its own direction and expansion. These complex and nuanced plants, composed of diverse varieties, are not simply reproduced. I transcribe them onto canvas as living beings, incorporating distorted and twisted forms or multi-layered forms. These unfamiliar and strangely distorted forms, repeated and amplified by their wavelengths, generate a new visual energy, and my intention is to present them as strange and distorted images, slightly different from reality.
