Ekaterina Salchenko

I am a Berlin-based neo-surrealist painter working primarily in oil. I create symbolic worlds where familiar forms transform into unexpected realities, exploring the subconscious, human experience, nature, spirituality and the contradictions of everyday life.

My paintings are not simply images, but fragments of worlds existing somewhere between reality, memory and imagination. I do not tell a single, fixed story. Instead, I invite the viewer into a visual dialogue, where the same painting can reveal completely different meanings to different people. Each viewer brings their own experiences, emotions and memories into what they see.

I am interested in the moment when the ordinary becomes strange. A house can become a passage, a bed can transform into an aqueduct, or a pair of trousers into a fish. Through these transformations, familiar objects become symbols and open the door to another reality.

Rather than following established formulas, I continuously search for new visual connections. Recently, I have been particularly interested in diptychs, exploring how two separate canvases can become parts of one evolving thought through colour, form and symbolism.
