Malin Svensson

I’ve always loved all forms of art, but I’m especially inspired by Impressionism in painting. I enjoy the technicality of the medium, the physicality of brushstrokes, and the challenge of making it appear effortless. My work explores memories and emotions through color and texture, and I’m particularly drawn to expressing mixed emotions and feelings of attachment, capturing the subtle connections we have with others, and with places.

Though I’ve worked in sound art, using vocal sounds, poetry, and synthetic speech (found on YouTube), I find that each medium offers something unique. Both sound and painting allow me to express deep emotions, but the way each medium interacts with its content and the story I’m telling elevates the meaning. I love investigating the connection and duality between the symbol and what it signifies.

In addition to my visual art, I hold a PhD in phonetics, where I’ve always seen research as another form of creative exploration, though with more defined boundaries.
