Adeline Gelinat

Adeline Gelinat is a French contemporary artist whose work explores identity, cultural contrasts and the dialogue between tradition and modernity.

Having lived and exhibited in the Middle East, she developed a strong connection with its visual culture, symbols and contrasts. This experience continues to influence a significant part of her artistic practice.

Working with acrylic, oil, collage, textile and mixed media, Gelinat often introduces real materials directly into her paintings. In her Middle Eastern series, authentic keffiyeh fabric becomes an integral part of the artwork, creating texture and relief while carrying a strong cultural and symbolic presence.

Her work frequently explores the encounter between heritage and contemporary life: traditional clothing alongside modern attitudes, cultural identity confronted with consumer society, and individual figures caught between belonging and transformation.

Colour, texture and composition play a central role in her work. Rather than simply depicting a subject, she seeks to create an atmosphere that invites the viewer to question identity, memory and the way cultures evolve.
