I call myself an accidental artist who has recently discovered that creating paper collage is an unstoppable passion.
Here are my guiding principles:
1. Vibrant color is unapologetic and energetic. My art is an extension of me, and no one has ever used the word Jodi and beige in the same sentence.
2. Imperfect lines make perfect stories. Every single piece of material is hand cut, placed and glued yielding slightly crooked lines. The most meaningful journeys never trace a straight line.
3. No material is off limits. While paper is my primary jam, mixing it up with other things creates more depth.
4. Smooth is overrated. I like my art like I like my stories—layered, textured, and a little bit rough around the edges.
5. No rinsing and repeating. I never use the same material twice in a piece because repetition inhibits discovery. 6. Balance what’s open and closed. Some shapes invite you in while others are closed and impenetrable.
7. Spark joy and wonder. The true power of art lies in its unmatched ability to insight happiness.
