Baiqiang Yang

An art creator originally from China. After graduating from university, while working in photography and video in Beijing, he felt limited by photographic expression that merely documented reality. Seeking freer expression, he moved to Japan in 2019. 　
　　In 2021, he enrolled in the Department of Art and Culture at Musashino Art University's Faculty of Fine Arts, adopting painting as his primary medium. His work unfolds around religious symbols—such as symbolic crosses, silent black shadows, and colors signifying collapse and rebirth—driven by a curiosity about death and the boundaries of existence. Painting becomes a space transcending time and space, using imagination as a medium to explore the unknown spiritual world.
　　Within the canvas, through fluid colors and semi-abstract forms, she weaves in the ritualistic nature of prayer and the aura of unease, intending for the viewer to find their own prayers and anxieties within this fluctuation. The materials—oil paint, acrylic, varnish, powder, and others—are layered and scraped away, the very process of this layering and scraping becoming a ritual act that carves out “time” and “traces.” Moving forward, I will pursue a painterly expression that not only transposes religious symbol...
