Gianni Cuocolo

Gianni Cuocolo began his artistic career in 1965, attending the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples and graduating after a period of study and research in 1974.
His pictorial and graphic works represent a powerful system of signs, characterized by immediate gestures born of instinct, where the unconscious permeates his chromatic and material surfaces, and the gesture precedes the unconscious. He uses oil, tempera, watercolour, ecoline and ink, thus creating alchemical blends.
His works depict surfaces reminiscent of Expressionism and traces that evoke life, passion, and a sense of emptiness and fullness. Even in his landscape works, the skies, mountains, and sea become pictorial materials (for example, the skies are never blue); they are finalised on a palette. However, his paintings featuring characters are created without traces, meaning they are not the center of the scene; they represent nothing, they depict nothing, but what they animate.
The final field of his creative act is the magnetism of the work he is creating, like a theatre scene, movement is at the center of the pictorial field; he needs to mix colours directly on the palette and at the same time create beyond order and disorder.
