Robert Hicks

I was born in a small town named Stevensville, Michigan. Over the years I’ve moved around quite a few times, now happily calling New York my home.

I’ve always found ways to try to express myself artistically from an early age, experimenting with different mediums, but a few years ago, thanks to a dear friend, I discovered I could create sculptures through welding. I love everything about working with metal. Finding and collecting metal that others regard as garbage, and using it to create something new. Cutting, grinding, shaping and welding to bring my ideas to life, into something solid that will last.

I draw my inspiration from a common human experience: Perseverance. I believe that when life gets hard, and giving up seems like the easiest option, we have to get back up and keep moving forward. Surrender is not an option when it comes to the pursuit of happiness.
