Born and raised in Tampico, Mexico, Luis Sottil has dedicated his life to giving voice to the emotions of nature’s beauty with aesthetic and evocative richness. Deeply connected to the exuberant biodiversity of his homeland, he shares his reverence for flora and fauna with the world through paintings that resonate with life and intention.

40 years ago, Sottil pioneered an internationally acclaimed artistic process he named Naturalismo, a unique form of expression designed not to replicate how nature looks, but to evoke how it feels. His approach is a lyrical tribute to life, one that has found universal harmony across continents.

Driven by a mission to awaken an emotional connection with nature, Sottil immerses himself in the wild. He studies each subject meticulously, photographing, sketching, and collecting natural pigments from their environments to later incorporate them into his paintings. From the rich indigo of the cochinilla insect to the vibrant purples of the beetroot and the fiery oranges of the achiote seed, he extracts nature’s own palette to breathe color into his canvas.
