Lyosuke Saitoh

Lyosuke Saitoh is a Japanese contemporary painter based between Japan and Germany.
His work explores the hidden and contradictory sides of human emotion—joy, sadness, loneliness, desire, aggression, and vulnerability—and the instability that emerges when these emotions coexist.
Working primarily with painting, Saitoh distorts and obscures the human figure through expressive gestures, fragmented forms, and layers of paint. His practice is influenced by artists such as Francis Bacon, Salvador Dalí, René Magritte, Pablo Picasso, and Joan Miró, while developing a visual language rooted in his own experience of the human body and emotion.
Before focusing primarily on painting, Saitoh worked extensively as a professional dancer and performer. This physical background continues to influence the movement, tension, and distortion found throughout his paintings.
His works have been exhibited internationally in Japan and Europe, including Tokyo, Paris, and Madrid. He currently works from his studio in Leipzig, Germany.
