Denny Sarserio

Denny Sarserio (Cuba, 1994) is a visual artist whose work moves through the intersections of the autobiographical, the social, and the political. His pictorial practice—centered primarily on oil on canvas in medium and large formats—arises from a sustained reflection on art’s power as a language of resistance, memory, and collective transformation.
Born in Sagua la Grande, a small town in Cuba, Sarserio discovered painting during childhood while facing a hip condition that limited his mobility. That experience became the origin of a profound sensibility toward introspection and the emotional depth of observation.
He began his artistic formation under the guidance of the renowned Cuban painter and cartoonist Cecilio Avilés, a central figure in Cuban visual culture. At fifteen, he emigrated with his family to the United States, where his practice evolved toward a deep engagement with socially and politically charged art. Although largely self-taught, Denny Sarserio began his artistic training in Cuba under the mentorship of renowned painter and cartoonist Cecilio Avilés, a prominent figure in Cuban visual culture whose work was widely broadcast on national television.
His early education combined classical drawing techniques with a deep curiosity for composition, color, and symbolism. After emigrating to the United States at the age of fifteen, Sarserio continued developing his practice independently, studying the legacy of the Mexican muralists David Alfaro Siqueiros and Diego Rivera, as well as the structural innovations of Pablo Picasso and modernist European movements.
This hybrid formation—rooted in self-discipline, mentorship, and cross-cultural experience—shapes his approach to painting today, where intellectual inquiry and emotional intuition converge in a distinctly personal visual language.

On April 25th, 2026, Denny Sarserio presented work at Red Art Mx in Mexico City as part of the collective exhibition Habitable Narratives (Narrativas Habitables). The exhibited paintings, created throughout 2025, explored a deeply personal cubist language focused on masks, human interaction, and the shifting identities performed within relationships.
