I paint salt using acrylic on wood. Through my Salt on Table series, I explore salt and shadow as symbols of enduring value and human presence. Drawn to the quiet significance of ordinary things, I paint grains of salt found on my own table and give them new meaning, a quiet affirmation of enduring, individual worth.
Even the smallest grain of salt casts its own shadow. This simple observation made me realize that every person, in the sea of humanity, carries a unique presence and value of their own. I have often thought about identity and the ways we are influenced by changing environments, yet no matter where I was, my inherent value remained unchanged. Like an ordinary grain of salt, a shadow appears wherever there is light.
By embracing the natural grain of the wood, I build my identity through painting salt on my own table. White salt reveals countless tones through light and shadow without changing its essential nature. In the same way, our value remains constant even as we are seen from different perspectives.
