Michel Marcu

I am an Argentine fine art photographer whose photographic journey began at the age of fourteen. At seventeen, I traveled more than 30,000 kilometers across South America by hitchhiking, documenting a world that has largely disappeared. That experience shaped my way of seeing and taught me that photography is not simply about recording reality, but about preserving the emotional essence of a moment.

Although I spent twenty-five years working as an electronics engineer, photography remained a constant presence in my life. Since the 1990s, I have devoted my work to portraiture, theater photography, and the expressive possibilities of the human body.

My images explore the intersection of movement, light, and emotion. Working primarily in the studio, I collaborate with dancers, performers, actors, and models to create photographs that transcend documentation and become sculptural compositions. Rather than capturing poses, I seek moments of tension, balance, vulnerability, and trust—images that invite contemplation and reveal the poetry hidden within the human form.

My education as a photographer has been shaped by more than five decades of continuous practice, independent study, and artistic exploration.

I began studying photography at the YMCA in Buenos Aires at the age of fourteen. In 1967, a solo journey across South America became my first major photographic project and established the documentary curiosity that still informs my artistic vision today.

Alongside a twenty-five-year career as an electronics engineer, I continued developing my photographic practice before returning fully to photography in the 1990s. Since then, my work has focused on portraiture, theater, dance, and fine art photography, with a particular interest in the expressive language of light and the human body.
