Philip Palmer

I am interested in the physical qualities of paint and the structures that contain it. My paintings are not just surfaces for images—they are objects in their own right. The frame and the painted surface exist in conversation, each defining and supporting the other. By treating the frame as an extension of the painting, I challenge the boundary between artwork and object, image and container.
Through this approach, I explore how material, color, and form interact across edges and planes. Every layer of paint, every joint of wood, becomes part of the same language. My work invites viewers to consider how context shapes perception, and how the act of framing can both reveal and confine what we see.
