Antonio Sciole

Antonio Sciolè, born on May 6, 1976, operates in a territory that is difficult to delimit with precision. His work follows the path of Contemporary Visionary Surrealism and what could be defined as Psychic Realism: an art in which fidelity is not to the visible world, but to the inner states that inhabit and deform it. Although the precision of his line engages in a profound dialogue with the great Renaissance and Flemish engraving tradition—from Dürer to Bosch, from Klinger to Kubin—the conceptual core of the work is radically contemporary: art as an instrument of self-analysis, as a surgical act upon lived experience, and as the sole means to separate what emotional intensity has fused in an indistinguishable way.

The technique consists of India ink applied through cross-hatching and stippling on pressed cardboard, configured in polyptychs: diptychs and triptychs in which the physical fragmentation of the support is not an aesthetic choice, but a conceptual necessity. The works belong to the artist's private collection and constitute a unitary monographic cycle, readable as a narrative sequence as well as a collection of autonomous works.
