Hello! My name is Marina Daehn, I’m 24 years old, originally from Cachoeirinha (RS), and currently living in Portugal. Through art, I try to find relief and personal comfort for the endless events that life brings. My journey changed in October 2022, when I made the long-dreamed decision to move to Portugal in search of the world and of myself, both as a person and as a citizen. Before this, I wanted to be many things, including an architect, which led me to study Civil Engineering for two years, even though something inside me always whispered that it wasn’t my place. Arriving in Portugal felt like fulfilling a promise to my true self, giving me space to dive inward and embrace what had always been there: the need to explore. I also spent nine months living in Spain during an exchange program at the University of Córdoba, where I deepened my understanding of art history and the more theoretical side of the field. Living abroad places us in a position of vulnerability, balancing responsibilities at any cost, and I was no exception. Art became my refuge, even as it became harder to practice due to exhaustion and lack of time. Returning to painting has been like returning to myself, reconnecting with something I have always been. I am currently studying Visual Arts at the University of Algarve in Portugal. My educational path has been shaped by exploration and self-discovery. Before moving into the arts, I studied two years of Civil Engineering in Brazil, a period that ultimately helped me understand where I didn’t belong. In 2023, I undertook a nine-month exchange program at the University of Córdoba in Spain, where I immersed myself in art history and the theoretical foundations of the field. Throughout these experiences, while studying full-time, living abroad, and working to support myself, I learned discipline, resilience, and the importance of returning to what truly moves me. Today, I continue building my artistic and academic journey from across the ocean, embracing both the sweetness and difficulty of this path as I choose to start again from the beginning.
