Elbie Nel

I am a South African-born artist based in New Zealand, working primarily in oil. My practice centres on atmospheric, impressionistic landscapes where mood and emotion take precedence over representation. Using a mixture between layered brushwork and thinly applied paint combined with intuition, my work explores light, memory, atmosphere and a definite sense of hope.

Independent artist.
My practice has developed through self sustained studio work and informal study with Rina Badenhorst-de Wet in South Africa.
While I have been developing my practice over many years, this is the first time I am presenting a selection of my work online. Working part-time outside the studio has allowed me to devote more time to painting, resulting in a prolific and evolving body of work that is now available to collectors world wide.
