Alexandra Deutsch

The fundamental emotions and movements of life are the roots of my work.
My three-dimensional objects made of handmade paper are mostly covered with lamellar structures and have a strong tactile quality due to their irregular surface. Intense colours and often bulbous shapes convey sensuality and immediacy.
Extended working stays in Brazil, Colombia and Mauritania have inspired my artistic cosmos, especially the vegetation of the mangrove forests on the Amazon and the desert landscape of the Sahara.
On site, I create a second series of large fabric objects, which I also use to develop performances with dancers. As if undergoing a metamorphosis, the objects transform during the performance and movement. The boundary between body and artwork disappears.
I present my objects made of paper and textiles individually and in groups, ranging from large-scale installations to performance videos.
