Llewie Scott

I am a Devon-based contemporary artist working with solid English hardwoods, carving directly into the material to explore themes of identity, presence, and emotional depth. My original works are created from native timbers such as spalted birch, sycamore and oak, with the grain playing an active role in shaping each figure.

Using carving and controlled burning, I allow the form to emerge gradually rather than be imposed, resulting in sculptural reliefs that balance refinement with rawness. I am drawn to elemental processes and to subjects that convey quiet strength, inner alignment, and composure.

My Ember & Essence series extends selected works into limited-edition fine art giclée prints, each signed and numbered (editions of 100) and printed on archival paper to preserve the integrity of the original piece.

Every work I create is a dialogue between material and meaning, rooted in lived experience and intended to resonate on a deeper, more reflective level.

I am a self-taught artist whose creative education has developed through decades of sustained making, close observation and introspective practice. My understanding of form, texture and emotional tone has been shaped through direct engagement with natural materials, particularly wood.

Rather than formal academic training, my work is informed by lived experience and an ongoing commitment to storytelling, symbolism, and emotional clarity. This approach has allowed a personal visual language to emerge, grounded in material honesty and long-term practice.
