My name is Tevel Michaelanss 31 from Israel
I have been drawing since I was 5 and I am not planning to stop
My art does not behave
It bites
It glows
It changes shape when you look away
The work is born in digital pop art energy
Then it sinks into deep emotional realism
Then I take it to my hands and paint it for real
I use acrylics oils soft pastels Japanese oil pencils watercolors and whatever I feel is right
I work on fine art papers and canvas
I choose rich heavy luxurious materials only
I even mix my own colors at home to get shades that no one else has
My paintings live in light and in darkness
Day shows one truth
Night shows another truth
They reveal faces secrets and things you did not expect
People tell me the art feels alive
My art is feminine powerful surreal spiritual and a little dangerous in the sweetest way
It is the place where pop art and realism meet and refuse to say sorry
This is not wall decoration
This is luxury art with a soul
If you want something safe this is not for you
If you want something that stays in your head welcome
Education
Self-taught artist.
I learned from tattoo artists and painters online and in private lessons, flew to exhibitions just to study, read books and researched every little thing connected to art.
I began studying Interior Design at Shenkar, but realized halfway through that strict academic frameworks were not for me I prefer freedom of expression That is why I chose to learn directly from people and through the internet instead of schools.
At some point I understood that I want to devote myself entirely to art it feels like a gift from God.
Michaelans held a solo exhibition titled “The Wild Part of Something” at Sputnik Gallery in Tel Aviv March 11–16 2018
The exhibition focused on the meeting point between drawing and graphic art
Presenting works that explore the wild inner part of the self and the delicate boundary between control and instinct
The body of work is rooted in a psychedelic and trippy visual language
This exhibition marked her first show in Israel after several years of exhibiting internationally in festivals and group shows in Berlin Lisbon and Croatia
Presented in the underground space of Sputnik Gallery the exhibition invited the viewer into Tevel’s inner world
She created feminine figures using digital graphics neon and ultraviolet reactive colors
The works can be viewed in normal light yet in darkness a second dimension appears
Colors shift hidden layers reveal themselves and the pieces feel alive
