Marco Serri

Born in May 1958, this writer had been holding a camera since he was four years old. The precious guidance of his father, an excellent photographer, illustrator, and musician, was crucial in his use of the camera in manual mode. At the time, it was a 120 format and lacked a light meter, requiring him to visually assess the ambient light to choose the right aperture and shutter speed for a good image. Always devoted to sports, in 1987 he won the entrance exam to the ISEF Institute of Advanced Studies in L'Aquila, where he graduated with honors. In October 1981, he entered military service as a reserve officer in the Army, and upon completion, in 1983, he began a school career that would last for forty-two years, with short-term substitute teaching positions in Physical Education at public schools.
His scuba diving training was crucial: the discovery of a plane wreck from the Second World War, with its large number of large unexploded bombs, some well-crafted Nikon shots, diving as a guide for Navy divers, clearing the seabed of explosives, and interviews for newspapers and TV.
