Frans Schmitz is a Dutch photographer whose work spans analog and digital eras.
He began photographing in the 1970s using a Pentax 35mm film camera, documenting urban life and architecture during the pre-digital period. After a long pause to focus on family life, he returned to photography in 2001, working with Sony and later Canon systems.
While his tools evolved, his approach did not: a focus on atmosphere, structure, and authenticity. Whether working from historic film negatives or contemporary digital files, Schmitz treats the print as the final and essential form of the image.
His photographs are produced in limited editions on Hahnemühle Photo Baryta & amp; Photo Rag, emphasizing tonal depth and archival quality. Rather than pursuing technical spectacle, his work centers on time, place, and quiet presence.
Self-taught photographer with over four decades of practical experience in analog and digital photography.
