Fredrick Idele

Osarodion Idele Fredrick (b.1993, Nigeria) is a Lagos-based visual artist whose practice bridges memory, identity, and healing through stylized stick figures, African symbolism, and bold mark-making. Nurtured by a secondary-school teacher who introduced him to vivid color and landscape, Fredrick studied art formally but found his definitive voice following the death of his father — a turning point that deepened the emotional and archival intent of his work.

Working primarily in painting and mixed media on canvas, his process balances instinctive gesture with intentional symbolism. Simple, archetypal figures function as archival marks: vessels for personal grief, communal memory, and questions of Afrocentric masculinity. His breakout collection, The Perfect Gentleman, and its evolution, INTENTIONAL MEN, probe presence, vulnerability, and social identity while revisiting “the waiting period” — the quiet space between what is and what might be. Fredrick’s works also reflect everyday African rhythms and pop culture, positioning the African child as both observer and subject.
