I've worked in many different mediums over the years - quilt making, glass fusing, jewelry design - but no matter what materials I work with I seem to gravitate towards the same methods: physically arranging and rearranging colors and shapes next to one another until I find combinations that are unexpected and interesting; a focus on hand work that's more about repetition than precision; and I always work with abstract designs, where the construction and materials are as important as the image created.
My fabric wall hangings are a combination of all the skills and all the materials I've accumulated over the years. The compositions seem to grow on their own - and meander between different levels of geometric and organic, patterned and random, symmetrical and off-kilter. With lots of overlap and a blurring of categories, the goal is to allow them to be either or both at the same time, not get in the way with what I think they "should" look like, and let it change from day to day and from piece to piece.
BA in Studio Art from Clark University in Worcester, MA with a concentration in Collagraphy Printmaking
