Marsha was born in North Carolina and is largely a self-taught painter. Her oil paintings are influenced by the atmospheric color of the Impressionists, the compositional restraint of Japanese art, and the ornamental instincts of Art Deco. Color and atmosphere carry much of the feeling: the soft blur of Spanish moss, the saturated glow of a lavender field, the cool green stillness of water. Within this, an interest in pattern and ornament surfaces again and again, from the geometric plumage of a peacock to the folded, faceted forms of origami swans. Across still lifes and landscapes, her work asks for a slower kind of looking — an invitation to notice details--and sometimes the story within.
