Tamaz Mchedlishvili

My name is Tamaz Mchedlishvili, a self-taught visual artist from Georgia with five years of creative practice. At 68, my artistic journey is rooted in a deep exploration of transformation, decay, inner landscapes, and the fragile essence of our time.

My paintings combine abstract and surreal-symbolic elements, often expressed through thick, multi-layered textures that give the canvas a tactile, almost sculptural quality. I work primarily with acrylics, oils, and mixed media, building layers to emphasize depth, vulnerability, and movement.
The themes I explore stem from tensions — chaos vs. control, intuition vs. structure — and focus on transitions: from nature to architecture, myth to matter, the forgotten to the new. My influences include abstract expressionism, surrealist visual language, and local cultural color and form.
