Fernando Pupo is a Cuban born painter based in Miami, Florida. His work explores abstraction through texture, structure, and intuitive mark making.
Working primarily with acrylic and mixed media, Pupo begins each painting through spontaneous gestures and layered applications of paint. From this process, forms gradually emerge sometimes suggesting architectural landscapes, fragmented urban structures, or organic figures that appear within the surface.
Growing up in Havana, surrounded by aging architecture, textured walls, and the visual traces of time, he developed a strong sensitivity to surface, material, and atmosphere. These experiences continue to influence the layered and weathered quality of his paintings.
Rather than depicting literal subjects, Pupo allows images to emerge naturally from the painting process. Cities, reflections, and forms often appear as memories rather than precise places, leaving space for interpretation by the viewer.
Since 2020, he has focused on developing a body of work that balances abstraction, structure, and emotional atmosphere.
Self-taught artist with an independent studio practice developed through experimentation with acrylic painting, layered textures, and abstract composition.
