"To paint a small picture is to place yourself outside your experience. However you paint the larger picture, you are in it."
"˜Seeing Rothko' edited by Glenn Phillips and Thomas Crow.
I devote my art practice to the concept of emerging pictorial and physical spaces, for the observer to feel they can escape into the painting.
By establishing textured absorbent materials to compose residues onto the canvas, which is entering the physical space, is allowing the onlooker to step into the artwork. My work is heavily inspired by my processes; I have become aware of the significance of my chosen Medias which has encouraged me to experience more than just "˜viewing'.
Colour is influential in my concept as it invites the viewer into the space around my work.
Only engaging with primary tones allows the painting to stay in control and create mixtures of secondary and tertiary tones through the drying process. The work is forcing the viewer to use their imagination to distinguish the coloured existence beyond the painting.
