ABOUT
RECOGNITION
David Maislinger is a Swiss-based artist living and working in Wohlenschwil, in the canton of Aargau. He first developed a classical painterly practice before gradually turning toward constructive abstraction.
His work is strongly influenced by the ideas of the Bauhaus and the De Stijl movement. The theoretical and artistic approaches of Paul Klee, Johannes Itten, Wassily Kandinsky, Theo van Doesburg, and Piet Mondrian have been particularly formative for his development.
At the core of his practice lie color, rhythm, and structure — exploring the tension between spontaneous gesture and geometric order.
Maislinger works primarily with watercolor, ink, and ink-based mixed media, complemented by oil painting. Many of his pieces are conceived as part of series, reflecting Kandinsky’s triadic model of artistic expression: expression, improvisation, and composition.
In addition to original works, he also creates limited and open edition prints as well as individual commissioned pieces.
