My work is an exploration of the structural and the atmospheric, born from a life spent navigating the physical geometry of the world. With a professional background in roofing and construction, I have spent decades looking at the "bones" of buildings and the weathering of materials. Today, I translate those industrial textures and structural memories into Abstract and Neo-Expressionist acrylic paintings.
My current series, "The Architecture of Silence," focuses on the intersection of rigid forms and the quiet, emotional spaces between them. I utilize heavy scumbling and layered textures to create depth, often drawing inspiration from the raw, damaged surfaces I encountered in my years of trade work. By repurposing the grit of construction into the grace of fine art, I aim to capture a sense of stillness within the chaos.
Based in Omaha, Nebraska, with a perspective shaped by years living in Spain, my paintings are held in private collections across the United States. Through my work, I invite the viewer to find the structural beauty in the weathered, the worn, and the silent.
I am untrained and I've trained myself. I don't look at anything or have an inspiration from anyone except the Holy Spirit whom I pray to every time before I begin to paint. Then I turn on some music and think about times in my life and I just start painting. Whatever comes out comes out.
Too many to list.
