Artist Statement —
My work begins before I touch the material.
I don’t start with an idea—I start by recognizing what’s already there. Working primarily in burl wood, I follow the natural movement, tension, and character within each piece. My role is not to impose, but to reveal.
For more than a decade I’ve worked this way.
What draws me now is not just the figure, but what surrounds it—and what’s missing. Cracks, voids, and openings are as important as the form itself. A hole is not an absence; it’s a passage. A split is not damage; it’s a moment of change. These elements invite light into the work, allowing it to shift with perspective.
Like a song, I try to let the work carry feeling
-something you can sense without needing to explained.
My sculptures are about time—what it leaves behind.
Erosion, pressure, resilience. The rough and the refined exist together, the way memory does—part clear, part worn away.
I trust the process. Forms appear when they’re ready.
Something is always emerging.
Something is always holding on.
And something always remains.
WHAT REMAINS COLLECTION reflects the idea- what endures, what returns, and what is still here to be lived.
-Jack Leslin
An American artist guided by an intuitive creative practice, Jack Leslin built his early career by successfully selling his work, establishing a strong foundation in independent artistry. He later shifted his creative focus to real estate, where design and transformation became his medium. Inspiration began with converting a 19th century stone stable into an art studio and art gallery. Today, he returns to art with a refined eye—blending years of experience, vision, and evolution into each piece he creates.
What Remains Collection… marks Jack Leslin’s first collection since 2006. Earlier in his career he exhibited in hundreds of shows and has sold thousands of original carvings. We are truly excited to welcome you to this special return—a celebration of enduring creativity, renewed perspective, and artistic evolution. We hope the collection resonates with you.
