Peter Mohrdieck

I am a Berlin-based artist working between observation and construction.

My paintings often begin with real situations, which I carefully compose and reduce to focus on presence, atmosphere, and a subtle psychological tension.

My background in acting continues to shape how I approach painting. I think in terms of staging, timing, and the relationship between figures and space. I am particularly interested in moments that feel suspended, where something seems to have just happened or is about to unfold without being fully revealed.

Visually, my work draws from the clarity of American realism combined with a restrained graphic sensibility. I aim for a balance between precision and openness, creating compositions that feel controlled while still allowing space for interpretation.

Each painting develops slowly, with close attention to surface, structure, and internal rhythm. What may appear quiet at first often carries a more persistent tension over time. I am interested in images that do not resolve immediately, but continue to unfold the longer they are observed.

Ultimately, my work is about creating a contained atmosphere that feels self-contained yet emotionally present, inviting a slower, more attentive way of looking.
