Ana Tavares

I am a Black female artist based in the UK, whose work explores the emotional and cultural realities of African women. Through the use of deep brown tones and textured compositions, my paintings reflect the weight of traditional expectations and the silent oppression imposed on Black women within African cultural frameworks.
My work challenges inherited social norms and gives voice to the inner world of women who have long been shaped by restriction, history and identity. Each piece becomes a space of reflection, resistance and transformation, expressing both vulnerability and strength.
Through my art, I seek to honour the resilience of Black women and to redefine narratives around freedom, identity and self-expression
