Derrick Okanta is a dynamic Ghanaian visual artist, born and raised in Accra, Ghana. He is a graduate of Ghanatta College of Art and Design, where he developed a strong foundation in visual arts. Although he began his creative journey as a graphic designer, his deep passion for painting and drawing led him to pursue a full-time career as a painter.
Since completing his studies, Derrick has participated in numerous group exhibitions and artistic projects, steadily building his presence within the contemporary art scene. Painting comes naturally to him, and he finds a deep sense of fulfillment and expression whenever he is in the studio.
His work draws inspiration from his surroundings and everyday experiences, which he transforms into a distinctive and evolving visual language. Through a combination of texture, color, and mixed media, Derrick explores themes of identity, culture, and social reality.
Currently, he is working on a body of work titled “New Generation.” This project seeks to raise awareness about street children particularly those whose parents are unable to afford formal education highlighting their struggles and advocating for their right to access opportunities and a better future.
