James Selcke

The ‘impressionists’ probably had the greatest influence on my art, with their colorful palettes and bold / expressive brushstrokes. I feel art should tell a story that the viewer can experience with a narrative best told through rich colors and dramatic shadows.
My artistic journey has been primarily self-taught, although during the early years I had the privilege of studying under the gifted artist / illustrator IWAN LOTTON, who instilled in me a strong classical foundation.
Born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in the western suburbs, I currently reside in Venice, Florida. I am a member of OPA [Oil Painters of America], AIS [American Impressionist Society], Venice Art Center, Punta Gorda Art Center, and Suncoast Watercolor Society.
