Rayan Kapoor

I am Rayan Kapoor, based in Delhi, a city deeply rooted in culture, dynasties, medieval heritage, and, most importantly, the fine arts. I spent my childhood surrounded by this cultural richness, where my interest in the arts gradually developed from a hobby into something I now see as a meaningful pursuit.

While pursuing engineering, I realised that my connection with art was not merely a passing interest, but something I wanted to explore and develop over the long term.

The philosophy behind my work is centred around a feeling I believe is increasingly missing from our surroundings: Karuna. A Sanskrit word meaning empathy, compassion, and a sensitivity towards the suffering of others, Karuna has held an important place in Indian artistic traditions, from classical dance and performance to painting and sculpture.

As I continue discovering my potential in photorealism, I explore water, cold, motherhood, and nature as visual elements through which this emotion can be expressed. My work seeks to capture moments of tenderness, vulnerability, and connection—ultimately exploring the quality that makes us human: our capacity for compassion.
