Johanna Virtanen

Johanna Virtanen is a Finnish fashion and textile designer who has worked in the creative field for more than 40 years after studying design in Paris. Throughout her long career, she has combined a deep understanding of materials, color, and form with an ongoing exploration of artistic expression.

Alongside her design work, Virtanen has pursued visual arts across multiple disciplines, continuously educating herself and experimenting with new techniques and methods. Her artworks reflect a sensitivity to texture, an interest in layered compositions, and a strong visual rhythm.

Johanna’s favorite areas of work as a designer have always been children’s clothing and print design. She sees the world through the eyes of the heart — a different, imaginative perspective that is also strongly reflected in her visual art.

Since 2003, her works have been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Finland, Denmark, and Canada. Her artistic practice is rooted in lifelong creativity, curiosity, and a desire to discover beauty through new perspectives.
