Mindaugas Sematulskis

I was born in Lithuania in 1971 and studied art at university in Lithuania. Art has remained an essential part of my life ever since.

Throughout the years, I have continued to paint while also exploring artistic photography. My professional experience includes many years working in Lithuanian television, where visual storytelling, composition and the observation of people became part of my everyday life.

Painting, however, has always remained my most personal form of expression. I am particularly interested in the human figure and the psychological states hidden beneath the surface — vulnerability, anxiety, solitude, fear, tension and moments of emotional release.

My work is intuitive and expressive rather than strictly realistic. I use distortion, gesture, color and visible traces of the painting process to reveal emotion and create a psychological connection between the figure and the viewer.

After many years of creating, observing and experimenting, I decided it was time to bring these works beyond my studio and share them with a wider international audience.
