RECOGNITION

Engaging with painting’s inherited properties and materials I aim at expanding its pictorial scope. Immersed in daily life and culture, my inquiry into painting is concerned with what exists alongside my work. Painting offers a place to decode the different parts of the self – searching for equilibrium but also serving as a tool for puzzling out the world and its contradictions.

Painting is a continuous project for me. My practice is built around a specific interest in exploring less-familiar forms that create a distinctly different place and space through their relationships to each other in scale, proximity, and in their conversation with each other. I paint on two-dimensional, rectangular surfaces employing several types of media: acrylic, oil, flashe, gouache, graphite, and occasionally collage elements.

I am a lifelong Oregonian currently living and working along the McKenzie River Watershed. I earned an MFA in Visual Art from Vermont College of Fine Arts (Montpelier, VT) and graduated from the University of Oregon (Eugene), with a BFA in painting and a minor in art history.
