Volodymyr Savchenko

I’m an artist based in Ukraine, creating contemporary pastel works inspired by Cubism and Expressionism. These two movements continue to influence the way I see the world: Cubism helps me break reality into meaningful forms, while Expressionism gives me the freedom to fill those forms with emotion.
Rather than copying what I see, I look for what lies beneath the surface. A portrait is never just a face, and a still life is never just a collection of objects. I simplify shapes, rearrange perspectives, and use color to reveal character, tension, memory, or quiet moments that often go unnoticed.
Dry pastel is the medium that allows me to express these ideas most naturally. I love its physical presence—the soft dust, the rich pigments, and the textured layers that build up by hand. Every mark remains visible, making each artwork feel immediate, tactile, and impossible to reproduce exactly.
My creative process is intuitive but intentional. I balance structure with spontaneity, allowing geometric forms, expressive lines, and bold color relationships to grow together until the composition feels complete.
