Ratmir Babayev

Ratmir Babayev is a self-taught artist from Kazakhstan.

He has had no formal education of any kind - no art school, no academy, not even conventional schooling. And yet, in near-total isolation, he built an education few institutions could match: thousands of books across philosophy, medicine, law, physics, and history; classical piano at a virtuoso level; several languages; all self-taught, from nothing.

This paradox sits at the heart of his work - a mind shaped entirely outside every system, owing nothing to training or convention. He paints primarily in oil, between figuration and abstraction, driven by raw color and emotional intensity rather than technical polish. Each canvas is less a planned composition than a record of a state - painted through until something true emerges.

His work has been exhibited internationally, including in Florence, New York, and Basel.
