Ayootee Mokkhopadhyay is a contemporary Indian artist based in Kolkata, whose practice explores spirituality, devotion, inner stillness and the enduring visual language of Indian philosophy.
Her practice has evolved through two distinct yet interconnected visual approaches. The first is her contemporary elongated-eye style, through which she reinterprets Hindu deities and sacred subjects using expressive elongated forms, simplified features, earthy palettes and layered textures. Her second approach explores a metal sculpture-inspired aesthetic, where divine figures are visually transformed into aged bronze, antique brass, copper, stone and other sculptural surfaces, creating the impression of timeless sacred objects.
Working primarily in acrylic and oil, Aayotee draws inspiration from Hindu philosophy, sacred symbols, Bengali alpona and mandala traditions. Rather than simply depicting religious figures, she uses them as vessels for exploring contemplation, surrender, devotion and the relationship between the human and the divine.
Master’s degree in Sanskrit and no formal degree in fine arts, she developed her artistic practice through independent study and online learning from artists across the world.
Her works have been exhibited at ICCR Kolkata (2023–2024), Centre for Creativity Kolkata (2024), Lokayata Art Gallery, New Delhi (2024), and group exhibitions in Bengaluru (2024).
