Bartek Wojtkunski

My work is a long-running attempt to photograph Europe before it becomes entirely familiar to itself. Over the past decade I've worked across multiple countries — from the medieval Svan towers of Georgia's Caucasus frontier to the Atlantic edge of Portugal, from the Cantabrian mountains in snow to the Ottoman skyline of Istanbul under storm — looking for the moments where centuries of stone and a specific quality of light coincide in a way that doesn't repeat. I shoot with a Nikon D5500 and a DJI Flip, and I edit toward atmosphere rather than drama. I'm working toward my first solo exhibition, Tierras Antiguas, a selection of images exploring the relationship between ancient European places and the light that reveals them.
