Flaviu Săsăran (b. 1970, Romania) is a prominent contemporary painter, recognized for his complex approaches to both easel and monumental painting.A 1998 graduate of the "Ioan Andreescu" Academy of Visual Arts in Cluj-Napoca, he trained under the guidance of masters Florin Maxa and Victor Ciato, later specializing in monumental art.His versatile career combines large-scale mural projects with a studio practice focused on abstracted landscapes and dense textures. While drawing inspiration from the nature and villages of Transylvania, his creations lean heavily toward contemporary abstraction. Working predominantly in oil on large-scale canvases, his paintings are distinguished by energetic brushstrokes and thick impasto layers where the paint becomes structural relief. By using abstraction to evoke moods rather than depict simple images—a concept prominently featured in his exhibition "The Geographies of Silence"—Săsăran delivers a deeply mature body of work, where the landscape serves as a pretext for a complex spiritual and visual exploration.
