Rick Spring

Rick Spring is a Southern California–based artist whose work explores the visual and psychological experience of crowds, public gatherings, and collective celebration. Working from photographic source material, he translates densely populated scenes into compositions that move between representation and abstraction. Figures, gestures, architecture, and fragments of color remain recognizable while individual identities begin to dissolve into the larger image.

Originally from St. Louis, Spring has exhibited in California and Missouri. In 2021, he received a Futures Fund grant from The Luminary and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. His broader practice also includes abstract works concerned with material, labor, imperfection, and reflection.
