David Awoleye

David Awoleye is a Nigerian visual artist whose work explores identity, resilience, and the poetry of everyday life in Africa. Working through mixed media, he has developed a unique visual language rooted in Nigerian culture but made for a global audience.

His practice is driven by storytelling. Through bold textures, layered colors of fabrics, and intentional marks, David captures moments of community, spirituality, and quiet strength. Each piece is both personal and universal — a reflection of Lagos streets, ancestral memory, and contemporary African youth.

David is part of a new generation of African artists redefining the narrative of the continent. Rather than painting trauma or clichés, he chooses to celebrate dignity, joy, and complexity. His art invites viewers to see Africa not as a monolith, but as a living, evolving story told by the people who live it.

Based in Lagos, David exhibits and sells internationally. His work is held in private collections and speaks to collectors looking for authentic, emotionally resonant contemporary African art.

I am a full time visual artist practicing in lagos,Nigeria.

I studied at the University of Lagos, where i earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fine/Studio Arts.
